Originally built as a palace that belonged to the Maldonado de Chaves family, the building was turned into the headquarters for the city's military government during the Peninsular War. It was then converted into the Royal Carabineers headquarters and then became a home for nuns. The hotel which today occupies the building comprises a total of 30 guest rooms and suites and is fully air-conditioned.
